Other then that... was there any really successful (Space)TBS game at all in the last few years? |
Not much in the history, especially for space TBS, but a few are on the way.
Obviously, of course Horizon has to be mentioned, but we all know it's going to be awhile before we get to play it even though we wished it were otherwise.
SE V is on the way out and it looks like it will follow in SE IV's footsteps quite nicely. OS just did an interview with Aaron Hall you might want to check out. (Just click the www button below this post if you don't know my URL.) Hurry up June 06!
GalCiv 2 is on the way and I suspect it will be much more modable. (It could hardly be less so!) Can't say much more yet because I just don't know. But this is already gold and will be out very shortly.
And I just found out about another set of games that are TBS and notable -- the Legion series by Slitherine. Legion II is still on the planning stages but Chariots of War, Spartan, and Gates of Troy all built on the basic engine of Legion I. Legion I wasn't very moddable -- I managed to tweak a few items but there isn't much to change to begin with, it's a super simple game with a few flaws but lots of loveable "classicness" anyway -- but the later games appear to have greatly improved mod options. OS just obtained review copies of Spartan and Troy so check us out in a few weeks for a full review and possibly a mod and all that.
