I wasn't sure which forum to post this query in, I guess it dosen't matter. Anyways back to the point. Is Space Empires 5 worth getting?
I've been checking several reviews, and what I can make out is, the game has lot of depth to it, it's very involved, with many, many choices, however this detail has acted as a double edged sword.
There's a tremendous amount of variety and customization, and the game gives you a lot of feedback and information, however from what I've read, there's too much feedback, and the information generated is not presented well, plus there's a list of crippling bugs as long as my arm.
Is this true? or a misrepresentation?
Is Space Empires 5 worth buying? |

This is the right place to post.
I believe there is a demo you can try for space empires V. It looked very interesting to me. Without a doubt the game has a lot to offer. And they seem to be fixing the bugs that plagued it at release.
Another Risk like space game is starship kingdom from www.apezone.com, you may want to check. It also has a demo. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer

i don't have the game yet but intend to do so at some point. From what i've read, with the last patch (1.25) the game is almost bug-free.

Starship Kingdom, thanks for the heads up Zaimat, I've played risk before and found it suprisingly addictive. Risk with a sci-fi space theme sounds too much of a good thing for me to pass up. I'll have to download the demo and give it a whirl.
I must admit, I've never played any of the predecessors to space empires 5. However, if the latest patch eliminates most of the remaining bugs, I guess there's no reason not to give it a go. |

I didnt like the SE5 Demo at all.
Especially the UI was very non-intuitive and fiddly.
I never saw singleplayer SE4 as a game, more like an exploring experience.
It was fun to research and try out different technologies, but the AI was totally worthless and in the long run it was just to micro intensive.
A Space strategy game I am waiting for is Sins of a Solar Empire.

A very nice Trailer:

Although we wrote this well before the 1.25 patch came out you may still find our review of SE-V worth a quick read...

I played it so much to be able to get a good enough feel for things to write a review that then I burnt out on it and haven't touched it since. But I still liked the game at the time and probably will revisit it again someday...
