What kind of victory options are in the game.
If i understood well, it won't be possible to conquer the entire galaxy. So what are the options? |

Beside the normal ways to win, there is a story attached to the more common endings which I cannot reveal which I'm sure you understand.

Will most (if not all) of the SP be story-driven then Zaimat? The reason for my question is that I would hate to suddenly find myself "winning" the game because of a plot device, and be presented with some spurious "Well Done" screen.
Besides, I wouldn't want to finish the game if I haven't had revenge on Alien Race X for their dastardly sneak attack against us ten rounds earlier! |

So...something new about victory conditions?
Isn't it amazing how fast a thread can derail? Sorry 'bout that. <img border="0" src= "smileys/smiley9.gif">
Okay, Zaimat what'll it be then? How 'bout them victory options? _________________ i am sofa king we todd it |

No apologies necessary. I thank you for pointing that out.

"What is the maximum Number of Stars in a game??"
Within the current 6 quadrant galaxy ...
|
With appologies for the nit-pick... 6 quadrants is a contradition. By definition, a quadrant is one fourth of the whole... so you can only have four! _________________ Robert, the Earl of Huntingdon

"What is the maximum Number of Stars in a game??"
Within the current 6 quadrant galaxy format 600 is possible but we have set the current limit to 300 at this time. With 300, you can have a few thousand planets in the game. This seems to be more than adequate at this time but further testing may change it.

Agreed. Gameplay is more important for a strategy game. There are different layers (or complexity) on how races function in horizon. They are not bound by one single thing. They are not static. One of these layers is unique for each race and remains a constant to distinguish them as a race but all others are generated within certain parameters every new game (which are available to all races, including customized human player). Think of it as a personality, they are born with it but their environment, contact and events make them what they become. And all those things have just as much or more impact on how they evolve.
Still, your concerns are noted and we won't let it affect the gameplay in any negative way. The goal is to enhance it. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |

I am intrigued and very excited about all of the things you've said so far concerning gameplay except the above . . .
Back story is secondary to gameplay. Please do not put too much effort in fleshing out the raison de' etre of the species' conflicts in lieu of solid gameplay and functionality. You only have to look back as far as that other game to see how quickly it turns into a fecal smear when you decide to write a history novel instead of devoping a game.
I found a pretty good thesis on the subject while surfing the web one day.(God, I gotta get a life!!)
I can't get the $%##!@ link to work. Google the following phrase, one word: 'attackofthebackstory'. Should come up as only hit. It is a PDF file. _________________ i am sofa king we todd it |

You have to understand what we mean by a regular game.. It involves all the major races by default, some of them will be very powerful, almost beyond the ability of a 'new' space-faring race to challenge them technologically until the very late stages of the game, now imagine if they have allies.. Second it can involve thousands of planets, the galaxy is HUGE. Just like there are a billion stars in reality, it would be very hard to conquer it all or even to have the means to support such an endeavour..
What is the maximum Number of Stars in a game??
On reading more of the posts and the responses the game is looking really promising.
I know everyone is viewing things from past games where you could literally colonize, destroy or take over every star or planet. We never liked that aspect in past games and from very early on designed Horizon to reflect reality when it's possible.

Ok. Sorry for any confusion, let me be clear.
It is possible to conquer the entire galaxy. It's just not a likely scenario in a regular game and I'll explain a bit why.

We wanted to impart this largeness to the player.
However having said this currently you can play a custom game with limited races and stars and in such a scenario it is easy to just conquer 10 or so colonies and win. We are still evaluating what options to make available when beginning a new game as well as the number of paths to victory.
Beside the normal ways to win, there is a story attached to the more common endings which I cannot reveal which I'm sure you understand. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |
