Hello all!
Have I missed much? Judging from the responses on the board, it would appear no.
Internet time's been a little...limited at the moment, but I thought I'd grab the opportunity to look in and see if you have anything new for us Zaimat.
How's the beta stage going at the moment?

Are you sure flash 7 is installed? You may require administrator access (WinNT/XP/2000), I noticed this problem on one of the pc's here, it wouldn't update properly until I logged on as admin. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |

| The ships of the Barsig Conglomerate looked fairly formidable, for a race that are depicted as the trashmen of the galaxy. It appears that there will be no easy beats in this game - no race that can be easily overcome. However, I cann't see how the Human ships could possibly compete with the living ships of the Barbeck Council. |

All races can have formidable ships at high tech levels and in the archive we are seeing them well equipped Still some ships will inherently be superior (built from race specific technologies) but maybe limited in numbers (due to cost or other factors) or have weaknesses that can be exploited. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |

I suspect that you're correct on the admin access, Zaimat. Might have to try this at a mate's house.
From what you've said about the material though, it seems we may have to do some actual thinking rather than go in guns blazin'! Now there's a shocker.
The idea of "race-specific" weaknesses makes me wonder whether we will have some form of tactical intelligence in the game? The sort of thing in SFB where you scan the enemy ships and detect an increasing amount of data regarding shield/weapon status, weapon type, hull type etc. Or will this come from the generic empire radar, which scans all vessels within range? |

Sensors/scanners do in fact work to detect status/info on enemy ship components in combat. No not empire radar but based on the sensors on each ship and the better they are the longer the range of 'deep' scans. And of course they can be damaged/destroyed. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |

Heh... with this I will have to pipe up. This is sounding quite interesting Zaimat. I look forward to seeing some of it in action! [edited] _________________ Robert, the Earl of Huntingdon

Aah, so it is like SFB's TacInt. That's good news. Of course, now that I think about it, I'm sure you mentioned something like "scout labs" (and other ship's options) in a previous post.
So, will this facility be in a tactical or strategic setting? By which I mean, will we be able to scan ships on the galactic map, or is it something that will only take place in a combat environment? My presumption is that combat will "step outside" the normal theatre of operations, because we can have fleets engaging each other - which would be somewhat easier to do if we have a MoO style combat map.
Of course, there's nothing to suggest that the same facility won't operate in both areas. Although, it does beg the question, whether we will have a "strategic radar" too...? |

Sorry Boss! I can only get on the world-wide-wait during office hours at the moment. I'm too impoverished to have the Internet at home. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley19.gif" border="0"> I'm not too impoverished to get Norizon when it comes out though, never you fear.
As for the starships... Strangely enough, I can't seem to get the page to display properly, even with the Flash plug-in installed. :errr: |

Thanks guys. The artists specially love hearing it. Although Ravana hasn't said anything so I'll just go ahead and assume he hates em or is reserving judgment till he sees the rest
We've been upgrading some of our workstations this past week. Everyone loves upgrades except when things don't work as they should on the first try But things are back to normal. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |

Welcome back
Things have indeed been slow on the board the past several weeks, time seems scarcer in the summer. But fear not we've been busy making progress and next week we should have time for new stuff.
It's canada day here the 1st of July! And a long weekend for everyone in North America, with July 4th celebrations in the U.S. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |

That's right. You're all on the proverbial p1$$ up! I'd forgotten that.
Thanks for the update Zaimat, and try to stay away from too much of the "seasonal spirit". There's a game to finish you know! |

I wouldn't say we're ALL falling down drunk, Ravana. The brainless among us may be, but there are a few people left in the colonies with brains...
What's you guys' next big party over across the pond? _________________ Robert, the Earl of Huntingdon

If you're not all falling down drunk at least once this year, you're not making the best use of your taxes I say!
As for our next biggy Rob, I can't say that we really have them, at least not in the same vein as you guys. Hell, even the patron saint of England doesn't entitle you to a day off. Unlike every other country it seems. :V: |

I hear people go drinking everyday after work in England.. It would probably be overkill if you got a day off to drink
Too bad england didn't make it to the EuroCup finals. If anything that would have caused a nation-wide celebration. _________________ Horizon - Lead Designer |

That's what holiday's for!

The boys weren't up to the challenge. It's better that they don't make it too far in some ways. They might have gone out to a moody ref's decision, but they would have most likely embarrassed themselves in the long run. Really, the better team one that day in the end.
Enough of football, and booze, is there anything new for us Zaimat? Anymore scraps you can throw our way? Pretty please.
Edit: Well, besides the mentioning of more info next week.[edited] |
