Hi everybody. First post here. Yesterday i got my hands on a quite old game, but played it for the first time: Imperium Galactica 2. It has a lot of flaws, the story is quite unfinished in the end, but nevertheless i liked it. And for only one reason: it remembered about Reunion (this one is really old). You can build structures in the colonies, research techs the same way, puts whathever weapons you like on your ships, and other things.
But then i finished the game in 1 single day, and i remember playing reunion for like a year before managing to get through all those really hard challenges the game imposed to me (and i'm talking about a game built around 1995, or even before, i can't remember precisely).
And then i started reading all these promising posts about how horizon is going to be, and one question comes to my mind: Will this be a "one week" worth playing game, or should i buy a new more confortable chair, so that i can finish the game without crushing my bones and muscles?
I'd love to see in this game the good features that made reunion what it was (of course, without those really annoying bugs and crashes)... |

Imperium Galactica 2 (and 1) is from the same people that made Reunion.
IG1 is even more like Reunion from a gameplay perspective.
It also has a (even more) linear storyline.
Its pretty hard to get though, I had to acquire IG1 through ebay.
I found Reunions difficulty level very close to annoying though.
If you didnt act fast enough or made some wrong decisions in the very beginning you were quickly wiped out and had to restart from scratch...
What I REALLY loved about Reunion was the initial exploration of your home system.
The beautiful computer artwork (http://www.abandonia.com/games/150/images/games/Reunion2.png I just love this computer painted style, which sadly seems "outdated" today *cry* ) made building and sending probes and your first ships really fun...
I liked IG1 too, while IG2 was more in the lines of a standard TBS IMO... in a "failed" sense.
From what I gathered Horizon will be a "normal" 4X space strategy game which means high replay value but no linear storyline as core element.
(I still play Master of Orion 1 occasionally, after like 12 years of owning it... :O down with MoO2! )
Welcome to the boards. |

I've also played IG1 and IG2. IG1 was perhaphs my first foray into the world of space 4x games, and in my opinion, better than IG2, or that IG2, didn't really bring anything more to the game.
Unfortunately I can no longer get IG1 to run on my computer, and my biggest disappointment was the fact I was never able to build or use the Leviathan class mothership. Apparently that option was was taken out of the later versions of the game because it was believed it made the game far too easy.
IG1 and IG2 were games you could finish easily and quickly, but Horizon is a game far more involved and complete, no easy beat I think it will turn out to be. |

Well, good thing to hear...
And yes, Reunion was quite annoying when i had to start over, after a month playing. But nevertheless a liked it, because back in those days, there was no other game like that. What i meant about using the good part in reunion was exactly that: you had micro and macro management in your hands, but not like moo 3, in a more simple way.
Well, all i can do is hope for horizon, since all i read is very promissing. The only thing not promissing is the ETA. But, well, nothing is perfect. I'd prefer to wait several years and have a good game than see the developers rush for money and release it quite early, like space empires V.
And thanks for the reception. I hope to find people who enjoy the same game genre i do, since in Brazil things are a little complicated. These games don't get here. Acquiring then is part of the challenge!
I'll try to get my hands on IG 1, lets see what it is about... |
