I don't know if Web Wiz Forums can support this, but if it can, I think it would really be nice if you could add it. Right now we can go to the start of the thread, or the very end. But what if we've been gone for a week or two, and we don't remember what the last post we viewed was? Or what if we've been gone for an hour and 10 new posts have been added? I don't want to wade through 20 posts looking for where I left off. And I don't have time to reread the whole thread... and I suspect most other folks do not either.

If at all possible, please provide a link we can click on that takes us to the first post we have not read in a thread.

Thank you.

Also along these lines, sometimes the 'new posts' vs 'no new posts' icons are not updating correctly. I suppose this could be browser specific -- but I doubt it.

I've looked into this, there doesn't seem to be any mod available that keeps track within a thread of where a person left off. I will keep checking if such a feature is made available in the future.

I've noticed this too. From a bit of testing I figure this seems to be a browser image update issue or perhaps a delayed database update.

It seems to happen mostly if you use the BACK button on the browser, sometimes it updates and other times it won't loading the old data. But I recall once even refreshing didn't help and I had to close the browser for it to update.

The same thing seems to happen with Ikonboard forums (*nix based), with that even closing the browser didn't help leading me to believe it is a database update delay.[edited]

Well, hopefully somebody will come up with such a mod sometime. Otherwise, an upgrade to another BB system might be a good idea as the game nears completion and (hopefully) the number of readers starts to spike upwards. Orion Sector uses phpBB, which is written in PHP and MySQL, both of which are non-standard on most IIS-based systems, but *usually* can be added, especially if you control the server. Or you could get a unix/linux host...

If you want more info, you have my email... or PM me, whatever.

phpBB supports this? Or via a mod?[edited]

It's a core feature. As in this forum, there is always the option to go directly to the very last post in the thread, regardless of whether you've read the rest or not. However, if new posts that you personally have not viewed exist, which were posted since your last visit to the forum, then an extra icon shows up at the start of the thread name. If you click on it, it takes you to the first post that you have not read, whether that be first, last, or anywhere else in the middle.

Oh, and btw, I found out recently phpBB supports MS SQL Server, Access, and a few other popular windows databases as well... sorry for the mistake there earlier.
