Yeah I think human player has to either up the game difficulty (as well as adding the "scrap colonizers after first colony" game option), and/or throttle the expansion rate to match the general AI expansion rate.

Not sure to call this a bug...or an area of future play balancing...

"Destroy colonizer after first use" game option does nerf the ability to re-use the same colony ship rapidly for colonies 2-6 or so. Workaround: simply task 2 or more planets to build colonizers. Especially nerfs the intra-system colonization where a single colonizer can start many outpost...

Seconded. The map can be quite busy with massive density of things going on. Since every system has multiple planets... Kind of would like an "adjustable average range diameter between stars" like what Sword of the Stars (the first and greatest) game does on the "disk" map config...

I'm also trying to determine that if instead you colonize a world with a dig-able good do you a) get the discovery automatically when the colony is created and/or b) the discovery is still there and must be manually dug out or c) something different happens

Got something there with the "play beyond victory" concept: 2nd victory chance for your "ascendant" race to figure out how to go "dormant", or to build a one-way warp gate to the Andromeda Galaxy, etc. Things missing from this game I'd luv to see in an expansion: Heroes...

got same sort of out of memory error/crash. I sent an error report from the game start "report an issue" link from the Horizon game launcher. Would be a great idea if you guys did the same same so the dev can determine if it is the same thing hitting all of us.
