Hello,
I discovered this forum after seeing posts about it on the Moo III forum.
There seems to be a real fear among fans that after the Moo III disaster, game developers might consider Space TBS games to be "too hard" or "not popular enough to make money". I was very happy to discover this site, as it tends to disprove that idea.
From the huge size of the MooIII boards and other TBS forums, it seems obvious to me that there is actually a massive, vocal and devoted fan base for such games if only the developers can get it right. Which of course is the hard part <img border="0" src= "smileys/smiley1.gif">
After reading some of your ideas, I have to agree that I think you're on the right track. I especially like the idea of an initiative based system for the functioning of the empire itself as well as ship combat. The melding of such RPG and TBS concepts together could potentially make for a fascinating and novel game. I wish the Horizon dev team all the best and hope that the game manages to survive the transition from concept to reality. I will be watching this site with interest in the future.
Lucian. |

Unfortunately Lucian your fears came true here.
Horizon is/was too hard to develop.
Zaimat has found other work, to make a living. Horizon has no finances.
And even a labor of love will die if it can't eat.

Galactic Civilizations II and Space Empires V are the two leading 4X space games that I know of. |
