When playing in normal game mode with missions enabled, the mission for the Barbeck seems pretty useless because the reward (Biotoxines) is a tech everybody can research for himself. Furthermore, it seems unlikely that a race that worships life would give a deadly weapon to someone who has proven to care for his environment. It would be more plausible if the reward was something that boosts any environmental parameter.
So I suggest to change the reward for the Barbeck mission. I can think of the following possibilities:
1) Reward is terraforming tech and it cannot be researched anymore. Trading this tech is still possible.
This would be a huge game changer and I don't know if I really like this idea. But it would definitely fit the race description.
2) Reward is ability to colonize toxic planets as the Barbecks provided super sophisticated waste disposal technology or live shelter to stand against toxic environments.
3) Reward is a boost to farming, explained by genetic enhancements to seeds or super advanced farming machines. Maybe it adds +1 to the multiplier of the farming buildings.
As I like the terraforming system and how toxic planets are handled, I currently would favor option 3.
Maybe somebody else has a good idea?
