This is a possible diplomacy bug and here is what happened:
The varaians talked me into imposing an embargo on another race that I was allies with.
--edit---
This immediately changed their relations with me to hostile and killed all my trade income with them.
---
Well, how do I change my mind? I tried going to cancel treaty to hunt for a way to break the agreement but nothing. After checking all the menus it appears that once you impose an embargo on someone that there is no way to un-embargo them. Suggestions and comments ?? Anyone else ran into this ?

Re: no way to break embargo
In my current game I have imposed embargos on 2 races, but I have yet to find a way to end the embargo.
I wonder if maybe an embargo is supposed to be time limited the same way supplies aid and armistice works, a never ending embargo would make it impossible to do any trade with the race ever again.

Re: no way to break embargo
If it was time limited it would have parenthesis around the time wouldn't it ?
Thanks for responding I think we can safely say its a bug and to avoid doing this until it is fixed Unless signing a new non aggression pact with the embargoed race takes care of it.
Also, Earlier I said that it changed me to neutral with the race but it actually changed them to hostile so signing a new non aggression pact might be the answer ??

Re: no way to break embargo
Stupid question: Can you sign a trading treaty with the embargoed race? Maybe if you increase your relations to that race by gifting (Supply deliveries and financial aid worked good in a standard situation) you can do that so to say as "counter measure"?

Re: no way to break embargo
A good question actually.
It reminds me of a game I had a while back where I had a trade treaty with a race, and an embargo of the same race I had a trade treaty with.
I dont have the savegame for that anymore, but it dont sound like thats intended.

Re: no way to break embargo
In my last game I had an embargo on one alien race due to demand of my ally. When relations to the embargoes race regained due to me asking my ally to make peace with that race, the previously embargoed race asked my for a trade treaty. When I accepted the treaty, we had trade again.
So the good news is: Embargoes are not forever.
The bad news: They are not deleted in all treaties overviews. Although there was no embargo anymore on the affected race, I still had the text "Embargo against ..." on the tooltip of my ally. This smells like a small bug to me

Re: no way to break embargo
In my case I agreed to embargo when requested by another race. I then killed that race. Nowhere can I find how to remove the embargo. In the end I killed the embargoed race as well.

Re: no way to break embargo
well I'm avoiding doing any embargoes until this is fixed up. The way it appears now is that the only way to break the embargo is to wait for the AI to request a new trade treaty but the human player can't cancel and reopen trade any other way ??

Re: no way to break embargo
Another question: Anybody tried what happens when player requests the race that demanded the player embargoing the third race to end their embargo? Maybe this will end the player's embargo, too? I successfully demanded end of an embargo but I had not embargo with that race, so I couldn't check this.
