Population Growth

Post by logorrheac »

I can't find documentation on how it works. The manual just says to "avoid things that could negatively impact it, such as food shortages".

What I've pieced together is that there is some base rate, and it's affected by: planetary type, some technologies, and food shortages.

Is there anything I'm missing? And, is there any way to reduce or eliminate the debuff on a given planet or planetary type (e.g. a Barren)?

Not sure about the rest, but with the terraforming tech, you can effectively eliminate the debuffs of a planet by slowly turning them into a terran planet.

Ok, it's complicated, so the results here are preliminary.

They are made:
- using native planets (100% growth)
- without any tech, affecting growth rate
- with always enough food
- with average growth rate in traits

So.

First the population jumpstarts, doubling each turn - 50k, 100k, ... , 12800k.
After hittin 10 million mark initial growth abruptly ends and next turn population is 105% of current turn.
Until hitting the billion mark at about 100th turn (if unassisted by tech), growth slows further, and becomes 102% next turn.
I believe, on half of planet's max population growth slows to 101,5% next turn. - scratch that, I had an old version at work.
On three quarters of planet's max population growth slows to 100,05% next turn. UPD: 100,5%

In essence, it's geometric sequence but with different multiplier in each pop bracket.

I don't know yet, how exactly low/high growth rates affect the numbers, how is tech multiplier applied, how is hostile planet multiplier applied and where exactly does growth shift from 2% to 1.5%
