I noticed a few times when I do digs on some planets, that I discover tech that I have already discovered either through previous digs or research.
A game I'm playing now, I just did a dig where I discovered agronomic centers.
However I had already discovered agronomic centers in a previous dig.
This is just an example, and I noticed it with other techs as well.
Its this intended or is it a bug?
I find rather illogical to get a discovery for something that you already have knowledge of.
It would seem more logical, at least to me it does, to get a boost in the tech filed that the discovery belongs in than rediscovering something that you already have knowledge of.

Then this must be a gameplay bug because one can not discover a tech they already have.

Thats what I thought as well, which is why I posted this.
If you already have the tech, then it should instead-give a boost in the respective tech field.
Going by the history with this game here, I have no doubt the devs will check this out and fix it if there is a bug.
They have been good at communicating and fixing bugs here, which has resulted in a great game.

For techs it works that way, if you have already discovered the tech it will give you a boost instead.
For unlocking new building levels (eg: Agronomic Centers), they are not techs per say but I can change it so it gives a message, that you found nothing new. That would certainly make more sense in the off-chance that it happens. Thanks for reporting it.

Not sure if this was fixed or not, but I just had this happen again.
This time I discovered the shields tech, from a dig, even though I already had the tech.
I did not get any boost in the either the armor tech field or shield tech specifically from this discovery as I should have according to the above explanation.

It's a full tech field boost when you already have the tech. It varies in amount and is more significant when techs are level 5 or less. I looked at the code and it all looks fine to me.
I don't think there was ever an issue with this in particular but I'd be happy to take a look at it if you have a saved game (will need the turn right before the boost is applied/dig is done, check your autosaves to see the turn before).

Sent in a bug report with reference to my post here.
I am uncertain about the boost gain, cannot tell if boost is applied or not.

After reviewing the saved game, I can confirm you received a boost in armor tech field. You can also verify this on your end by doing the following:
1. Take note of current progress for each armor tech
2. Cancel dig order, press turn and compare normal progress
3. Order dig, press turn and compare boosted progress
What I have done is it will now display "Knowledge has increased in the field of Armor" in turn messages for techs already discovered in the next patch.

Good to hear things gets resolved.
Its this kind of communication that makes people want to report problems, as they know it will be looked into and resolved.
I just wish more developers/publishers were willing to listen to the community and fix things the way you do here.

"Knowledge of Fusion power Generators has been discovered from the ship debris on planet [insert planet name here]
Now that I know I get the tech boost I'm supposed to get, I thought maybe you would want to know about this and change the text accordingly, so it displays correctly?
Made a manual save of this so I can provide a savegame if need be.
Game version, 1.0.2.122.
